Our preparatory ‘Online Islamic Studies for Children' course is a one-year, part-time programme, carefully designed to introduce young minds and hearts to core aspects of the Islamic tradition and prepare them for further, advanced studies.
Carefully assimilated by renowned subject experts - rooted in classical, Islamic academic rigour - this one-year course is the elementary stage of our part time Cobbold Initiative - an Alimiyyah Islamic Scholarship programme for children.
Each stage of the Cobbold Initiative is informed by the 5 Cs: competence, confidence, connection, character, and care. Through their studies, learners will gradually develop their knowledge and skills, culminating in the achievement of the 6th C: contribution – where young Muslims will now emerge as positive, thoughtful, and contributing members of the Muslim community and wider society.
Upon completion of this course, young learners will acquire knowledge pertaining to: the pillars of Islam; obligatory knowledge (fard al-ayn) that all Muslims must acquire in regards to prayer and purification; the moral, physical and spiritual perfections of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through narrating his Shama’il; the Golden era of Islam and its contribution to humanity; Islamic civilisation and historical sites; and personal development through the dissemination of Islamic character morals, principles, and ethics.

Who is This Course For
This course is perfect for children who have just begun their journey to acquire sacred Islamic knowledge.
Admissions Requirements
This programme has no requirements, and is open to any child aged between 9 and 13.
Admission for all Essential Islam courses are administered by our course facilitation team. Applications for the ‘Islamic Studies for Children’ must be submitted through our online portal: simply fill out the application form and click the 'enrol now' button.
Attendance is mandatory, students risk being withdrawn from the programme for a lack of commitment (see our terms and conditions for more details).
Cohorts and Deadlines
The programme is offered once per year. The next cohort starts in September 2022.
We encourage applications to be submitted early, as we anticipate a high volume of applications for this course.

Curriculum
The syllabus has been structured and tailored for a modern-day audience, in an age of technological advancements and tools that were not readily available only a decade ago. We aim to use visual and auditory aids coupled with a traditional syllabus to maximise learning proficiency for our students.
Students will develop knowledge and skills in foundational Islamic Studies from both a traditional and contemporary context, providing an ideal foundation for further study.
Structure
There will be a maximum of 20 children in a class, and there will be two teaching hours a week on Sunday between 10am and 12pm.
Homework
Homework will be set regularly, and will be supported by quizes, and an end of year exam.
Duration
The course has been setup to be delivered in line with the School calendar, ensuring 25 weeks of teaching, alongside time-off as per the school half term and term holidays.
Parental Expectations
As a virtual course, it is imperative that we have the support of the parent throughout. Parents will play a key role by promoting positive classroom behaviour, ensure their children are doing their homework, whilst helping them to also be more organised, as well as validating their children’s efforts.
This is an online only, Virtual Learning course, which is streamed live weekly with classes led by academic instructors, and supported by distance learning on-demand resources, personal 1-2-1 academic tutor assistance, and a dedicated student liaison team.

Born and raised in the heart of Bradford, Shaykh Sohail Ahmed (LLB) is an ardent student of knowledge who embarked on his Islamic studies in 2007. A journey which reached its zenith in 2021 where he completed and graduated from the highly revered Dars e Nizami programme.
Under traditional tutelage, Shaykh Sohail has completed all aspects of the highly revered ‘Dars-i-Nizami’ curriculum.
Shaykh Sohail currently works as a compliance consultant in the financial crime sector, whilst continuing to study more advanced Islamic sciences, as well as teaching students of knowledge and seekers of guidance throughout the week.
