Learning to read the Noble Qur’an is an extremely important step in any Muslim child’s life as it signifies the beginning of a wonderful relationship with Allah and the Prophet Muhammad.
Carefully assimilated by renowned subject experts - rooted in classical, Islamic academic rigour - this ongoing programme will inculcate a loving, luminous bond between children and the Holy Qur’an as they set out on their Qur’anic recital odyssey.
Using a range of classical and contemporary learning techniques and resources, children will steadily progress from learning the Arabic alphabet, joining and identifying letters/words with the correct articulation, reading Arabic words; to fluently reading the Majestic Qur’an with the correct elocution (tajweed).
This unique flagship course also paves the way to broader and more advanced Quranic studies, such has Hifz and Qira’at.

Who is This Course For
This course has been specifically designed for children of any age that have no prior (or little) knowledge about how to read and recite the Noble Qur’an. A successful completion of this course (which is on-going) will enable children to read and recite the Majestic Qur’an with full fluency and elocution.
Admissions Requirements
This programme has no requirements, and is open to any child - aged 4 and upwards - who wishes to learn how to read the Noble Qur'an.
Admission for all Essential Islam courses are administered by our course facilitation team. Applications for the 'Childrens Quran Academy' must be submitted through our online portal: simply fill out the application form and click the 'enrol now' button.
Attendance is mandatory, students risk being withdrawn from the programme for a lack of commitment (see our terms and conditions for more details).
Cohorts and Deadlines
Cohorts for class 21 and 22 may be the only enrolment for this academic year. We therefore encourage applications to be submitted early, as we anticipate a high volume of applications for this course.

Curriculum
The syllabus has been structured and tailored for a modern-day audience, in an age of technological advancements and tools that were not readily available only a decade ago. We aim to use visual and auditory aids coupled with a traditional syllabus - taught and perfected over almost a century ago - to maximise learning proficiency for our students.
Students will be receiving a prolific education in the recitation of Holy Qur’an that is parallel to many of the great syllabi around the globe.
Core specialisations focus on the nuances of the Arabic language, phonetics and articulation, the correct pronunciation of Arabic terms, practice-based learning, and reciting (tilawah) the Majestic Qur'an with tartil (i.e. with hymnody and no haste).
Structure
Each class will have a maximum of 15 children, and have two teaching slots a week of one hour each.
Class 22 (now enroling) is taught on Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 11am.
Homework
Homework will be set and marked once a week, and will be supported by audio aids. Students are expected to follow the tutorials whilst looking at the Qaida/Qur’an to assist their recitation and progress.
Duration
Our current curriculum road-map is based on a 5 year cycle, where each child will learn at their own pace based on their ability to grasp each lesson as its taught.
With this said, based on our current student benchmarks - if all homework is completed on time, and parents encourage 10-15 minutes of daily recitals/practice - we are confident that it will take 24 weeks for a child to finish stage 1 (the Qaida), 35 weeks to complete stage 2 (Juz Amma), 60 weeks to complete stage 3 (Juz 29-25), 42 weeks for stage 4 (a full Quran khatam), and another 42 weeks for stage 5 (ijaza in Hafs).
Parental Expectations
As a virtual course, it is imperative that we have the support of the parent throughout. Parents will play a key role by promoting positive classroom behaviour, ensure their children are doing their homework and daily recitals, whilst helping them to also be more organised, as well as validating their children’s efforts.
Course Material and Content
All course material is provided for unit 1 (Noorani Qaida) and unit 2 (Juz Ammah) in digital formats.
Course content is based on our own unique curriculum, which has been specifically developed to expose students to a prolific education in the recitation of Holy Qur’an, whilst developing critical thinking and attributes required for more advance Quranic studies.
This is an online only, Virtual Learning course, which is streamed live weekly with classes led by academic instructors, and supported by distance learning on-demand resources, personal 1-2-1 academic tutor assistance, and a dedicated student liaison team.

Through this course, children will develop a wide range of skills, underpinned by knowledge of the traditional discipline of reciting the Holy Qur’an with the correct elocution.
Certificates will be awarded upon the successful completion of each stage.

Hamza Khan is a vibrant young ustadh that descends from a noble family of Qurra, including his honourable grandfather who has taught the science of Qur’anic recitation for decades in Bangladesh and beyond.
He has demonstrated a real passion for the Holy Qur'an from an early age; being bestowed with an ijaza (and permission to teach) in Hafs at the tender age of 18.
Ustadh Hamza is currently studying the highly revered ‘Dars e Nizami’ curriculum as well as other Islamic sciences, whilst also pursuing further advanced studies in the science of Quranic recitation and memorisation.

Ustadha Shabeena Bibi is a consummate student of the Sacred Knowledge, and has strived as a seeker for the last ten years, whilst demonstrating a prodigious aptitude in the field of Quranic recitation.
Ustadha Shabeena, a graduate of the Essential Islam Tajweed Masterclass programme, currently holds an ijaza in Hafs, as well as other modes of the ten canonical recitations of the Noble Qur’an.
She currently teaches in her home town of Burton, and virtually across the UK and beyond; all whilst continuing in the highly revered Dars e Nizami programme, as well as study in the science of Hadith, Qira’ah, and Tajweed.

Ustaad Hamza has been an excellent teacher throughout, and has really helped my daughter quickly progress on the Qaida is such a short period of time, we will being the Qur’an soon. I was surprised how quickly she grasped the rules of tajweed, and can only put this down to Ustaad Hamza's great teaching skills. I have now also enrolled my five year old son onto the Quran Academy course.
My seven year old has only been studying the Qaida for a few months but has progressed so quickly. She can easily join letters and pronounce difficult Arabic words. Cannot recommend this course enough. Very flexible and amazing support – which has been much needed in the current climate we find ourselves in.

We are very happy with the teaching and how the children have progressed over the five weeks. We can see how confident our little one has become. He was not very familiar with the whole Arabic alphabet at first, however as we go through the exercises, we can see how he is picking up each exercise with more ease. I have 2 children studying with Essential Islam and I have nothing but positiveness for what is an outstanding course.
For both of my children, they were nervous about online classes however, now it has become second nature. What I really like about the course is that the resources, teaching and support available are centred around the learner. For example, I like the fact that lessons and important concepts are recorded and available for learners. This means my children have been able to watch the videos at their own leisure and importantly, pause, replay until they have mastered what they need to learn.
I also admire the way Essential Islam has pathways that lead on from what the children are learning now. These pathways give our children the option to further study.
The course content, the pace of learning and the interaction with the EI team makes this a must to do on every parents list. We've had the pleasure of enrolling our son in the initial cohort of students and alhumdulillah, seeing him complete his Qaida in just 24 weeks, with correct Tajweed is truly jaw breaking stuff!

My three children are all enrolled in the programme. They've all made tremendous progress, especially the youngest, who was a complete novice. Results will be seen if utmost effort is put in at home using the online tools. Qaida was completed in about six months. The fact that the children look forward to the classes speaks much about Ustad Hamza and his team.
My youngest when he began wouldn't sit, concentrate or try. A few months later after trusting the process my child has made a massive amount of progress. Ustad Hamza is an amazing role model for our children but crucially he's built relationships and supports us so much. I'd recommend the classes to anyone!

Essential Islam Quran academy has single handedly taken my six year old (who had been accustomed to normal madrasah learning), from a little boy who thought learning Quran was daunting to a little boy who not only willingly wants to learn but has grown in so much confidence in his essential Islam journey and has thrived. It is a process and one which you can definitely trust. There were times that you felt it was going at such speed that he would never keep up. Constant reassurance from ustaad to trust in the process has paid off. Ustaad Hamza is able to identify when a child will struggle and when it will click into place, as it has done for my six year old. My son enjoys Quran and wants to learn and his thirst for learning has only been developed by the process of essential Islam and the way they deliver qaida. Cannot recommend it enough. I only wish we had known of it sooner.
I want to say that Ustadh Hamza is an amazing teacher, very gentle and patient, and he works to each child’s abilities. He teaches the rules in a very relatable way for the kids when they’re struggling and that really helps! The whole setup and all the content provided is just something else, and I’m really pleased with it! I can not praise Essential Islam enough for how you they have come up with teaching this way. I always wondered how online Quran classes work and assumed it wouldn’t be as beneficial as face to face teaching but with this setup I’ve been proved wrong! This Saturday I had a friend and her daughter sit in with us during the class as they are interested in joining. She was very positive by the end of it and will in shaa Allah be enrolling her daughter soon.

When first enrolling my son on to Quran Academy we were sceptical, as online learning isn’t ‘traditional’ way of learning the Quran. Prior to enrolling we had many reservations, but the admin team helped put our mind at ease, and we realised how Quran Academy was a great choice for our son.
The way the classroom material is setup is very easy to follow for the parents, and also interactive enough for the children to navigate through too. .
We especially like that there is always support abd feedback available when we need from the teachers. We were really concerned how our son will behave during class, and if he will be able to engage with the teacher online. Ustadh Hamza has built a great rapport with the children, where they respect and love learning from him. .
