Synopsis

Our ‘Spoken Arabic for Beginners’ course is specifically designed for those who have a keen interest to learn conversational Arabic, whilst also being exposed to nuances in classical Arabic grammar (sarf) and syntax (nahw); paving the way to broader and more advanced Islamic studies.

Students will be expertly guided through their Arabic journey, as they traverse from absolute beginnings all the way to developing into a seasoned speaker. Our highly interactive lessons will cover everything: from teaching learners how to pronounce the words correctly; to conjugating verbs and forming sentences to express oneself; as well as the present, past and future tenses; everyday vocabulary; and more specialised terminology.

Students will also pick up classical Arabic subtleties through being taught Sarf and Nahw, which are key components into understanding how words are formed, how they change based on their grammatical function, and how they are arranged in a sentence. This knowledge will form the backbone to further Islamic studies, especially if students have a desire to read and understand Arabic texts, including the Quran.

This course is ideal for anyone who wants to start learning Arabic for any purpose - travelling, business, marriage, further Islamic studies, or anything else.

Admissions Requirements

Admission for all Essential Islam courses are administered by our course facilitation team. Applications for the course must be submitted through our online portal: simply click the 'enrol now' button and fill out the application form. If required, all supplemental materials will be requested in the form of an audio note using WhatsApp by the course administrator.

This programme has no requirements, and is open to those who wish to embark on their Arabic adventure.

Attendance is mandatory, students will be withdrawn from the programme for a lack of commitment, whether that is for missing three lessons or, three homework submissions being late or missed, or consistently being late to class.

Cohorts and Deadlines

The programme is offered once per year. The next cohort starts on the 5th September 2023.

Early Admission Deadline: 1st August 2023.

We encourage applications to be submitted before the early deadline, as we anticipate a high volume of applications for this course.

Curriculum

The ‘Spoken Arabic for Beginners' is a one year part-time programme. The teaching year is split into 40 weeks, with 4 hours of live teaching a week, which is supported with around 2 hours of on-demand resources a week.

Core specialisations are focused on learning vocabulary, verb conjugation, grammar, sentence structure, and then practice, practice, practice!

This is a Blended Learning course which is taught in-person in the classroom, as well as streamed live weekly with classes led by academic instructors, and supported by distance learning on-demand resources, personal 1-2-1 academic tutor assistance, and a dedicated student liaison team.

Master Classes From Qualified Teachers

Shaykh Wahid Akhtar

Ustadh Mohammed Wahid Akhtar spent 12 months in Syria, where he studied Arabic language at the University of Damascus Language Centre.

He has a Masters in Pharmacy from Liverpool John Moore’s University, and is presently studying oncopharmacology and pharmaceutics the University of Bradford.

Ustadh Wahid is currently studying the highly revered ‘Dars-i-Nizami’ curriculum with Shaykh Mufti Wajid Iqbal, whilst also studying with Syrian Ulema online.
